Summary: gantry crane wheels are critical, high-strength forged or cast steel components designed to support, guide, and move cranes along rails.
The wheels of a gantry crane are the core components of the crane's walking mechanism, responsible for carrying the entire weight of the crane and its load, and guiding the crane to run smoothly along the track.
Common types (classified by wheel rim):
According to the operating track and guidance requirements, wheels are usually divided into the following three categories:
Double flange: The most common type with raised wheel rims on both sides, which can effectively prevent derailment and is suitable for large gantry crane walking mechanisms with long running tracks.
Single flange: Only one side has a flange, usually used in situations where the walking mechanism of a crane trolley or the track spacing is small.
Flangeless wheel: With a smooth surface, it needs to be used in conjunction with horizontal guide wheels to completely eliminate friction between the wheel rim and the track. It is commonly used in special semi gantry cranes
Key technical parameters
Diameter: The standard range is usually between 160mm and 1000mm.
Hardness: The tread surface is usually subjected to heat treatment, and the surface hardness is generally required to reach HB300-380 (or HRC 40-56), with a hardened layer depth of not less than 20mm to ensure wear resistance.
Load capacity: The single wheel load capacity can range from several hundred kilograms (lightweight mobile) to hundreds of tons (large port cranes).
