Crane Beam Brake Wheels

Thruster brake wheels are prime fail-safe components in heavy-duty industrial machinery, such as EOT cranes and conveyors, that interface with electro-hydraulic thrusters to stop or decelerate movement. They are spring-applied, meaning when power fails, the brake engages to ensure safety, commonly available in various diameters to provide high, consistent torque.

Product Details

1) Core components
     Fail-Safe Design: Thruster brakes are "normally on" (spring-applied). Power is required only to release the brake, providing automatic, safe braking during power loss.
     Electro-Hydraulic Thruster: A motor-driven unit creates hydraulic pressure to push a piston, releasing the brake shoes from the drum or disc.
     Wheel/Drum/Disc Types: These brakes come as either drum brakes (commonly 8–23 inches in diameter) or disc brakes.
     Applications: Widely used in cranes, hoists, material handling, and mining equipment.

2) Obvious advantages:

     In general, there is no friction to assist the potential, so the brake efficiency is less affected by the friction coefficient, that is, the efficiency is relatively stable;

     The results show that the efficiency decreases less after water entering, and it can return to normal only by braking once or twice;

     When the output braking torque is the same, the size and mass of the drum brake are smaller than those of the drum brake;

     The thermal expansion of the brake disc along the thickness direction is very small, which will not increase the brake clearance and lead to excessive brake pedal travel as the brake drum does;

      It is easy to realize automatic clearance adjustment and other maintenance and repair operations are also relatively simple.

3) Elementary requirements:

    *1. Brake disc diameter

     The brake disc diameter D should be as large as possible. At this time, the effective radius of the brake disc is increased, which can reduce the clamping force of the brake caliper and reduce the unit pressure and working temperature of the pad. Limited by the rim diameter, the diameter of the brake disc is usually 70% - 79% of the rim diameter. The upper limit should be taken for vehicles with total mass greater than 2T.

     *2. Brake disc thickness

     The thickness of the brake disc has an impact on the quality of the brake disc and the temperature rise during operation. In order to make the mass smaller, the thickness of the brake disc should not be too large; in order to reduce the temperature, the thickness of the brake disc should not be too small.

     The brake disc can be made into a solid or a ventilation hole is cast in the middle of the brake disc for heat dissipation and ventilation. Generally, the thickness of solid brake disc can be 10-20 mm, the thickness of ventilated brake disc is 20-50 mm, and 20-30 mm is widely used.

     However, in the case of emergency braking at high speed, the brake disc will form thermal deformation and shiver.

     In order to improve the heat dissipation performance of the friction surface of the brake disc, the brake disc is mostly made into a ventilated brake disc with a cavity in the middle, which can reduce the temperature of the brake disc by 20% - 30%.

4) Corresponding criterion:

    *The brake disc meets the requirements of the JB/T7019-93 standard B.

    *The type, size and tolerance of keyway meet the requirements of standard GB/T3852-1997.

Note: Priority should be given to the number of ▲front brake drivers who can produce all kinds of non-standard brake discs according to user need.

6) Recondition and maintenance:

    1. The run out error of brake disc section detected by dial indicator is greater than 0.06mm. There are obvious wear steps and tear grooves on the surface of brake disc, which can be processed and repaired.

    2. Check the wear limit thickness of brake disc is 8mm. If the thickness is lower than the standard, new parts should be replaced.
