Summary: The hoisting brake disc (also known as brake disc or brake wheel) of a crane is the most critical safety component in the hoisting mechanism. It mainly controls the lifting, lowering, and airborne positioning of the hook by friction with the brake pads.
Classification of common winch brake components:
In industrial procurement, there are usually two types of structures: disc (block) and drum (brake):
1. Brake wheel (drum brake disc): belongs to the most traditional industrial crane configuration, often matched with electric hydraulic push rod brake or electromagnetic brake.
The appearance is cylindrical drum shaped, and the brake pads "lock" inward from the left and right sides.
2. Brake discs (disc brake discs): Modern large tonnage cranes, crawler cranes, or tower cranes tend to use hydraulic caliper disc brakes for their main winches. The friction block (brake shoe) clamps the flat circular brake disc on both sides like pliers.
3. Micro/electric hoist brake discs: If it is a small tonnage micro winch (such as a 100kg-1T hoist), usually a built-in conical or disc brake disc (with copper wire friction pads) at the end of the motor is used.
Core maintenance and adjustment techniques thickness inspection:
When the brake pads wear to the limit (usually thinner than 3mm~5mm, or less than half of the original size), they should be replaced immediately.
Gap adjustment: Use the adjusting nut to adjust the tightness of the brake spring.
Loose brakes can cause heavy objects to slip, while tight brakes can accelerate brake pad wear or cause motor overload and heating.
Daily maintenance: Keep the surface of the brake disc dry and free of oil stains. If there are serious grooves or blackened areas on the surface, it is recommended to promptly repair them with turning or replace them directly to avoid brake failure.
