Summary: EB and Ed are two of the most common designations for electro-hydraulic thrusters. They are primarily used as the actuating mechanism for heavy-duty industrial drum and disc brakes found on cranes, hoists, and conveyors.
Operation and function:
Failsafe Operation: Thruster brakes are designed to be mechanically applied by heavy springs when power is off.
Releasing the Brake: When power is supplied, the electric motor inside the thruster spins an internal pump, which forces hydraulic fluid under a piston.
The Result: The piston rod extends, lifting the spring and releasing the brake.
Detailed differentiation:
1. Structure and sealing design (core differences)
Ed series: As the flagship series, it adopts a dual redundant seal system (Redundant Seals) in the piston rod and motor shaft parts, and is equipped with a dedicated piston rod dust protection sleeve. This design can completely isolate external iron filings, dust, and water vapor, and has extremely strong oil leakage prevention capabilities.
EB series: The structure is relatively streamlined, and although the sealing design meets standard industrial requirements, the protection redundancy is not as high as the Ed series when facing extremely high density dust (such as cement plants and mining core areas).
2. Materials and Durability
Ed series: The body shell and internal core components are mostly designed with anti-wear features, optimized for extreme climates such as the Nordic cold zone or tropical coastal ports, and have a longer maintenance free life.
EB series: focusing on high cost-effectiveness, while ensuring basic output thrust and extremely high switching frequency (up to 2000 times per hour), it simplifies some non core redundant designs.

While both rely on the same fundamental electro-hydraulic principle, they generally feature different configurations and design ancestries (commonly tracing back to European standards):
