Maintenance of Gantry Bridge Crane Caliper Disc Brake

Caliper disc brakes require special care
Before you attempt to repair your brakes, remove the brake pads and perform the repair in a clean environment. You'll also need to perform many of these tasks at operating temperature for best results. You'll need to bleed the system, clean out any sludge and deposits, and refill with brake fluid.
Be careful to maintain the proper fluid level. You may want to fill to 75%. Then operate the system.
Bleeding the system
Air in a hydraulic brake system can cause malfunctions. Bleeding a hydraulic system means bleeding out trapped air.
Meticulous maintenance means taking precautions to remove all trapped air from the brakes and not allowing new air pockets to be introduced when changing the fluid.
Brake Cleaners
You can make a big mistake when using traditional brake cleaners to maintain your brakes. Traditional brake cleaners can damage the hydraulic system. They can also leave a residue that can cause the brakes to not work properly.
Brake Pads
Then you will need to at least reset the brake pads. Depending on wear and use, you may need to replace the brake pads.
Avoid Failures
Hydraulic failures can be caused by overheating or improper functioning of the system. Most of these failures can be resolved by using approved brake fluid, bleeding the air frequently, cleaning the system, and replacing the brake pads.
A faulty hydraulic system that is not properly maintained can cause serious failures in important equipment. You also need to check the systems that the brakes are connected to to ensure safe operation.
Check Power and Wires
Remember that wires and power are just as important as other components in your brakes. During any scheduled or unscheduled maintenance, pay special attention to wires and power.
Check your connections and the condition of all wires. The auxiliary power source may operate the pump that provides hydraulic brake fluid to the equipment. Worn wires can cause a short circuit and cause the brakes to fail.
