Daily and Periodic Inspection Steps
• Visual Inspection: Check the brake wheel for wear, grooves, pitting, or cracks. Ensure the surface is free from oil, dust, and dirt.
• Measurement: Use calipers to measure the rim thickness of the brake wheel, comparing it to the manufacturer’s specifications to calculate wear.
• Air Gap Check: Use a feeler gauge to check the air gap between the brake shoe/lining and the wheel, which should typically be between 0.5;
• Functional Test (Load Testing): Lift a light load just off the floor, then stop to see if the brake holds.
For higher precision, follow special standards to lift a load approaching the rated capacity, raise it a few inches, and ensure the brake holds securely without creeping.
• Component Check: Inspect brake springs, lining thickness (replace if), and ensure all pins and bolts are secure.
